Last month, six crews went head-to-head for the Intersection film competition, part of the esteemed Whistler Ski and Snowboard Festival. The grand prize: $10,000… So what do you do to come out on top? Make this gem: Jerry’s Day—starring Stan Rey as “Jerry.”

Spring’s almost here – and that means it’s time to take a vacation.

Luckily, you won’t have to travel very far for one, now that there’s an entertaining event happening just up the Sea to Sky Highway. Whistler is hosting the World Ski & Snowboard Festival next month and you don’t want to miss it.

Spread out over 10 days from April 7 to 16, the festival makes for a great excuse to celebrate spring, especially with its endless lineup of music, art, filmmaking, snowboarding competitions, nightlife activities, and more. And don’t forget about the apres ski events, either.

Watch freestyle skiers compete for national titles in halfpipe, big air and slopestyle events as part of the Canadian Junior Freestyle National Championships from April 4 to 9.

Naturally, you’ll want to try out the world-class ski runs on Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain while you’re there. Experience sweet spring skiing and then attend a free outdoor concert from 2:30 to 5:30 pm. And yes, the concerts are absolutely free.

So far, the Fido outdoor concert series has announced an impressive lineup, including but not limited to:

  • Busta Rhymes
  • Swollen Members
  • Virginia to Vegas
  • Walk Off The Earth

Enjoy the beats and spring ski vibes during the festival where artists are performing at the Skier’s Plaza stage, in front of Excalibur Gondola and Whistler Village Gondola.

There’s a silent disco happening on April 14, if you prefer to dance to your own personal soundtrack. The Kokanee Freeride Club Series will also be running DJ nights at different locations over the 10 day festival. And with a dog festival on April 15, even your pooch can enjoy the festivities.

Want to experience the exhilaration of a summer festival, while indulging your love for the mountains? Warm up this winter season with our guide to dance music’s best Ski & Snowboard festivals.

Not for the feint of heart, Snowbombing is perhaps the world’s most famous winter festival. Their reputation is built on ingenuity. Snowbombing is the only place you are likely to see Fatboy Slim DJ in an igloo, or Andy C turning an underground tennis court into an arena befitting of many a summer festival. The full-throttle event takes place in the famous Austrian ski resort of Mayrhofen, annually in March.

Rise is a relatively new addition to Europe’s ski & snowboard festival family. Taking place in the weeks leading up to Christmas at Les Deux Alpes, in France, Rise boasts a diverse line up which pairs the likes of techno luminary Seth Troxler with UK rapper Kano. Outside of the main arenas, there is plenty to take in. Our personal favourite is the ice disco rink, where you can skate away to disco classics.

While many of the festivals on this list favour a diverse music policy, often leaning towards bass music, Polaris is famous for slick sophisticated techno, which works perfectly in their stunning Verbier location. Richie Hawtin, Dixon, Luciano and Moodymann all performed at the last event. They’ll be back for more in December 2017.
